48 Hours in Austin- Quick eats, coffee treats and a site see!
They say "Keep Austin Weird" and I say "WELL DONE PEOPLE!" because that place is super funky. Since SXSW is happening now I figured this would be an appropriate time to share mine and Jason's trip to Austin.
Austin was our second stop on our journey cross-country, we picked this place not only to visit his sister (who I met for the first time while I was there) her husband and Jason's nephew but also so we could check out some live music and eat some bangin' food!
Jason being the meat eater he is, we had to get him some Austin brisket. So we stopped in this BBQ place called Uncle Billy's Brewery & Smokehouse. You pull in the parking lot turning your head to the aroma of smoked meats. Everyone started devouring the food before we could even take a picture haha. I personally ate all the fixings that came on the side, which were sooooo good!
The next day was a fun filled day of eating, site seeing and more eating! We wanted breakfast tacos since everyone raves about Torchy's Tacos and they sure were "Damn Good Tacos" as they call them! This place will leave you wondering how in the world do they even pack so much flavor into a freaking taco!! Customer service was 5 star, the guy gave us info on coffee places and ways to leave Austin and still get to check out small little towns. Also, they have a "secret menu" that you will want to check out! Touché Torchy's, touché.
If you have the means to drive outside of Austin while you are there, you MUST go to Hamilton Pool Reserve! Located maybe 45 minutes out of Austin, hidden off back roads, you'll find this breathtaking reserve. In the warmer months you are able to swim in the pool but the water was maybe 50 degrees when we were there, so that was a no go! It was still a site to see regardless! I believe it was $5 CASH (cards not accepted) to enter and I would wear hiking shoes if you don't want to get your everyday shoes dirty.
As you get to know Jason, you will soon realize that he will find a Thai place no matter what lengths he has to go to find it. Its actually sicking how much Thai food that boy eats! I can't complain though because it is delish! So I went to a Vegetarian place down the street called Bouldin Creek Cafe to grab a healthy meal and then joined him at the Thai food truck. We sat outside and enjoyed the weather, the funky town and some awesome eats!
We unfortunately didn't get to spend as much time as we would have liked down there in Austin, so thankfully we can go and visit family any time! Next time will be a purely music and nightlife trip!
P.S. Check out El Tacorrido for the EL EQUINOX- iced horchata with a shot of espresso. So. Good.
Let me know if you have any suggestions in Austin or future reference! Hope everyone has an awesome weekend, thanks for reading!!
